Spicy Tuna Salad

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 6:05 PM
Sorry, no pictures, and not even that great a recipe - but it was really good!

3 carrots
9 baby dill pickles
1 clove garlic
1" of raw horseradish root
1 can of tuna
mayonnaise

Toss the carrots and garlic in your food processor - process until the carrots are about half broken up. Toss in the pickles, process until fine (about 1-2mm chunks?). Remove the outside of the horseradish, use your microplane to grate it into the bowl. Drain and add the tunafish. Break up the tunafish, mix well. Add mayonnaise until it's the consistency you like (I like mine dryish, I use about 2T.)

Fly Amanita in my backyard. It's spectacular. The top is almost as big as a dinner plate.

Trashy baked potato

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 2:02 PM
Well I finally learned how to properly bake a potato. It turned out great! And let's be honest, potatoes are cheap, filling, and easy to make... as well as easy to trash up.
For one half, I used a ton of cheese and 3 strips of bacon.
For the other, I used bacon salt, chili (leftover from a lunch on campus, yeah I like to be a crafty consumer), and cheese.

(Crappy phone picture!) Oh but it was so good. So go forth and trash up your baked potato! :)

Coming soon, hopefully you all will be interested (no not more eggrolls yet!): A documentation of my "7 day can challenge"! My sister gave me 7 cans with the labels off for my birthday. I am supposed to open one a day and eat at least half of the contents in some form. I started yesterday and it's bound to be an interesting week...

Chocolate Chip Cookies+Frozen Coolwhip

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 10:40 AM

I got the idea from an old 'Chips Ahoy' commercial that they used to play when I was a kid (at least 10-15 years ago).

Soooo good. Puts an icecream sandwich to shame.

Fans of trashy foods have been eating Moon Pies for years, and we were fairly recently shown the wide variety of Moon Pies now available. But I stumbled upon something marvelous, something horrifying, something absolutely delicious at Piggly Wiggly:

Mint Moon Pie Crunch.

Imagine, if you will, Girl Scout thin mints, only bigger. Sandwiched between them is a cookie cream akin to (but not quite) the filling of a generic "chocolate sandwich cookie."

It was wonderful, and I wish they sold them here where I live, rather than an hour and a half away. :(

Blue ice

In 2004, we took our first and only cruise so far to Alaska. As we sailed through a fog with fog horn blowing every two minutes, the ship veered to port, sending a a service cart careening across the deck. The cause of this abrupt move was the glacial calf below passing close to our starboard.

Thanksgiving

To keep this post on-topic, here's a photo of my "lethal" cranberry sauce:

Recipe is quite simple: cranberries and cranberry-flavored Jell-O made with the traditional Jell-O shot method. I buy a fifth of vodka and then enough Jell-O mix and cranberries to make a couple batches. Sometimes I will add a little sugar. It makes holiday gatherings with the family much more tolerable!

Anyway, on to my real point of making a post tonight: has anyone successfully done a fried turducken??? I have googled it but I am sure some of us food pornstars have some great advice. I also welcome advice on preparing an oven-cooked turducken but I really want to try deep frying it. Thanks.
I had leftover hot dogs in the fridge, but didn't wanna just heat n' eat, nor did I want to spend 30 minutes thinking of something.

So using 2 slices of bread with margarine on one side, 3 Kraft Singles Slices, and 2 Hot Dogs cut lengthwise, I created myself a Grilled Cheese Dog. Almost went ahead and dipped in my usual ketchup, but decided it's DELICIOUS on it's own.

Best to have the stove on low-medium heat to grill though, so the dogs have time to get warm. *nods*

I bought the most wonderful thing at the grocery store last night and I just had to share it with you so you can rush out and get some.

Pumpkin eggnog!

AND

Sugar cookie eggnog!

I figured the pumpkin one would be awesome and it is! It tastes like liquid pumpkin pie and I'm having a hard time not drinking it all (and the fat that comes with it). I've been adding it to my coffee instead of milk in the morning and it is so good.

I wasn't so sure about the sugar cookie one but my friend convinced me to try it and it might just be better than the pumpkin one. It isn't just sugary eggnog, it actually tastes like sugar cookie dough! I let my kid try it and he has been bugging me for "sugar milk" all day.

I'm glad that these are a limited edition thing because if they don't stop me I'd probably just keep buying them. Yum.

Midland Brown 1

A small snake we believe to be a Midland Brown Snake that someone brought in to ID at the Wildlife Center and because they weren't sure if it was to late in the year for it to be out. When I left it was being debated on weather to let it go or keep it over winter. (I advocated letting it go). After reading about the snake I found that its not a baby, just a very small species of snake. He was a feisty little guy.

Taken at the Wildlife Center of Missouri. Snake being held by my friend Zac.
